In May, 2024 Isamu won his 7th World Round Up Freestyle Championship held in Surrey, British Columbia, Canda. He won his first title in 2014.
This is the second Powell Peralta deck he provided the art for. In his words, "What I focused on when creating this piece was making sure it had an impact that wouldn't lose to the previous work.
The last signature model featured an intertwining of human figures and a skull, but this time, I made the skull a larger focal point and aimed for a more horrific and striking overall effect.
However, I don’t usually start drawing with a clear vision of the whole image in mind. I tend to draw rather instinctively and casually. For example, as I mentioned, I vaguely think something like, “I want this to have a stronger impact,” but that’s about as concrete as it gets at first. From there, it’s more like letting my hands move on their own, digging the image out from the paper or screen.
As the drawing progresses, I gradually get a clearer idea of what I want to create. After producing multiple versions, I was finally able to arrive at a deck design that gives me real motivation when I ride it."
